FLUTE SCHOOL LONDON at Monplaisir

Saturday 23rd to Wednesday 27th May 2020

“What an amazing rich and challenging time  it was in France. My music memory tank is full!! It really was a very special time.”

In 2020 the LONDON FLUTE SCHOOL returns to Monplaisir for the fourth time, a beautiful country house set in acres of lovely gardens in this most peaceful part of south-west France.

Chamber musician and flute tutor Janna Hüneke and trained chef and amateur flautist Marion Gough are looking forward to welcoming back old friends and newcomers on next year’s residential course which runs from 23rd to 27th May 2020.

The course is friendly and informal, with a maximum of 12 participants, and is suitable for adults from grade 6 or equivalent playing standard. Sessions are individually geared towards course participants.

As well as gourmet food and wine, and a chance to discover this beautiful region of France, the course offers a mix of whole group rehearsals, technique workshops, the opportunity to play duets/trios etc, and individual master classes. Our concert on the last evening in front of an enthusiastic and appreciative audience gives everyone a chance to enjoy the music they’ve been working on. An individual one-to-one lesson is also an option if desired, and a chance to play with Cécile Martin, our experienced accompanist.

You can fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Brive-la-Gaillarde on the morning of Saturday May 23rd, in which case we’ll pick you up from the airport for transfer to Ambeyrac (1hr 20), returning on Wednesday 27th in the morning.

If you prefer to make other travel arrangements, flights are available several times a day to Toulouse from London Heathrow, Gatwick or Luton, and several times a week from Bristol. You can then complete your journey by train or hire a car for the 2 hour drive to Monplaisir. If you’d like to travel all the way by train, there are direct connections from Paris to Cahors, from where we can pick you up. An additional night’s accommodation is available on Friday 22nd if it’s more convenient to arrive the evening before the course begins.

Everyone will meet for lunch in Ambeyrac on Saturday 23rd, ready for the first playing session in the afternoon. Our day will be rounded off with drinks on the terrace and a 4 course dinner, served with local organic wines.

There will be the opportunity to visit a local market and some of the beautiful medieval villages in the area, and there are plenty of options for walking or cycling in the beautiful valley of the River Lot, as well as stunning spots for wild swimming.

Alternatively, just put your feet up and relax by our heated pool!
