After a pause in 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19, we’re delighted to confirm that Flute School London will be returning to Monplaisir, a beautiful country house set in acres of lovely gardens in this most peaceful part of south-west France.
Chamber musician and flute tutor Janna Hüneke and trained chef and amateur flautist Marion Gough are looking forward to welcoming back old friends and newcomers on the residential course which runs from 20th to 24th June 2021. And this year we’re excited to announce that Ian Clarke will be a guest tutor, hosting an interactive session via Zoom! The course is friendly and informal and is suitable for adults from grade 6 or equivalent playing standard. Sessions are individually geared towards course participants.
You will notice a few changes this year due to the pandemic. A pre-departure Covid test is likely to be required before travel to France and please check any rules that apply on your return to the UK. We will unfortunately have to limit the number of participants, and for everyone’s security all participants need to have had at least one vaccination. Our usual concert on the last evening in front of an enthusiastic and appreciative local audience might not be possible this year, but we’ll have a chance to enjoy the music we’ve been working on with an informal performance to each other.
As well as gourmet food (and optional wine), and a chance to discover this beautiful region of France, the course offers a mix of whole group rehearsals, technique workshops, the opportunity to play duets/trios etc, and individual master classes. You can also sign up for an individual one-to-one lesson.
Fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Rodez at 13.45 on Sunday June 20th, and we’ll pick you up from the airport for transfer to Ambeyrac (50 mins), returning on Thursday 24th at 21.25.
If you prefer to make other travel arrangements, flights are available several times a day to Toulouse from London Heathrow, Gatwick or Luton, and several times a week from Bristol. You can then complete your journey by train or hire a car for the 2 hour drive to Monplaisir. If you’d like to travel all the way by train, there are direct connections from Paris to Cahors, from where we can pick you up. An additional night’s accommodation is available if it’s more convenient to arrive the evening before the course begins.
We are striving to minimise the negative environmental impact of travelling to Monplaisir. The course fee therefore includes a realistic contribution towards offsetting your carbon footprint through a tree-planting scheme.
There will be the opportunity to visit a local market and some of the beautiful medieval villages in the area, and there are plenty of options for walking or cycling in the spectacular valley of the River Lot, as well as stunning spots for wild swimming.
Alternatively, just put your feet up and relax by our heated pool!
